Kitchen Units
Just thinking about remodeling a kitchen is mind boggling. There are so many choices of cabinetry and you want to be sure you get something that fits in with the rest of the décor. A quick trip to the home store will give you a look at how different pre-built kitchen units will make your job easier. Few people these days have the budget to have everything custom built and by choosing pieces from the same line you can still create the kitchen of your dreams for a lot less money.
Your budget will be the most important consideration in choosing kitchen units. Bear in mind that there may be other costs involved such as flooring and lighting. If you are adding new units to an existing kitchen; you must take care to match them to what is already in place. If you are starting from scratch, think about how you plan to use the kitchen. Are you just going to prepare meals in it or will it also be a social gathering place? Do you have small children? You may not want a glossy finish on your unit unless you just enjoy wiping fingerprints constantly. Decide on your layout and get accurate measurements before you shop for your units.
Most kitchen units are fitted but kitchen islands are often freestanding. You can find some freestanding units as well and if you are adding to an existing kitchen, it may be worth your while to investigate some freestanding pieces. Islands in particular, come in a number of configurations and will make an attractive addition to an existing kitchen.
You can get used kitchen units. People who are doing a complete remodel will be happy to get a little money for their old stuff. You might buy directly from the person or check out a re-use-it center. Yes, the cost will be substantially lower but the choices may be very limited. If you have to hire someone to fit the units for you; you may spend more than you save. If you can do it yourself and find the perfect unit; you’ll be ahead of the game.
I love going to Home Depot and looking at the sample kitchens. You can get a lot of ideas about how to fit kitchen units into your floor plan and rearrange them for a more custom look. I kind of like the idea of adding different pieces in addition to a pre-built kitchen unit. Use your imagination and your kitchen will truly be one of a kind.
